Blissful Summer wines at Galli Estate tasting

November 26, 2014

I found the perfect summer wine at a recent Galli Estate tasting @The Wine Bank in Bendigo. The small Victorian producer, which has vineyards in the Sunbury & Heathcote regions, has produced a 2014 Pinot Grigio that has it all. It is crisp acidity, a good mouth feel and aromas of fresh lemon and tropical fruit makes this a perfect partner for all kinds of Mediterranean cuisine.

Tonight’s tasting also featured a Chardonnay and number of reds. The 2012 Tempranillo/Grenache/Mouvedre is another great summer wine, more appropriate to the lighter style of food served in warmer weather. The wine displays an abundance of juicy red and black berry fruit, a hint of spice and a lovely savoury finish. This TGM blend would be deliciuous with BBQ meats. Its soft tannins make this wine a good match for spicier food.

The award winning 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot was another great wine in this line up. It has elegant Cabernet fruit, displaying cassis and blackcurrant, supported by rich and luscious Merlot fruit make this wine a great match for heavier meals. This Cabernet Merlot comes with a beautiful velvety mouth feel and will reward short term cellaring.

Although the Galli Estate 2013 Camelback Nebbiolo Rose didn’t feature on the night, I have previously tasted this wine recently at the Heathcote Wine Show and absolutely loved it. Bone dry, with good structure and some tannins; this is my perfect summer Rose!

The wines from Galli Estate always deliver and are particular good value for money, retailing for about $20 each.
